Great rule of thumb on kidding…

This does not mean back pedaling your way out of it by saying you are kidding. Again, to Ellen’s  point. If you have to explain to someone you are kidding, the receiver obviously didn’t it see that way and probably won’t laugh once  it has been explained as a joke. The moment has come and gone. Sometimes, and would dare to say more often than not, we say insulting things guised as a joke, but perhaps we really do think we are being funny. However, if it is hurtful or insulting to the receiver try out an apology it just might mean an opening the door of getting to know someone.
